After you have created a custom Print Template, and clicked Save, you can begin to design the document in the Design tab of the Edit Custom Print Template window.

You design the document by building it item-by-item until you have a complete template.

To add a new item to the print template, click the Plus button.

There are three types of items that can be added to a template:

  • Component - A pre-made combination of text and data from Permit Manager, such as a header or signature line. See this article for additional information about components.

  • Data Field - A specific piece of data pulled from the database.

  • Text/Date - A chunk of text or a date that is specified by the user of the print template.

Each of the three are described in greater detail in the sections below.

Component

There are many different components that can be added to a Custom Print Template. Complete instructions for adding components are in this article.

Data Field

The data fields available to include in a template will vary depending on the record type specified for the template (permit, property, or violation) when it was first created.

After selecting Data Field for the new item, you'll need to choose between adding Department Data or Permit Data (or Property Data, or Violation Data).

Department Data is only relevant if you've created multiple departments in the software (like Codes Department, Planning Department, Permits Department). Very few municipalities have set up multiple departments, so in most cases Department Data will not be used.

Permit Data (or Property Data or Violation Data) allows you to enter almost any data fields associated with those types of records into the template.

After selecting the data Type, choose the data Field to include in the template. The list of data fields can be quite long. Use the search box to filter the list to a more manageable size. Click Done to bring the selected data field into the template.

Within the template, adjust the space allotted to the the data field by dragging the arrow button left or right.

Text/Date

The Text/Date item allows you to enter specific text or dates within the template.

Continue to build out the print template one item at a time until it is complete. Then click Save.
