Violations (just like permits) are always linked to a property. Therefore, the first step in creating a violation is always to choose the property where the violation is occurring. Generally, the fastest way to find the relevant property is to use the Property Search on the Dashboard page and enter an address or property owner name.
Once the property has been found and the property record is opened, the new violation can be created directly from the Property window. Click on the Violations tab, then click the Plus button to begin creating a violation.
This will open a New Violation window. The only mandatory data field is the Deadline Date, which is the date by which the violation must be abated by the landowner or tenant. All other data fields are optional.
Choose the Violation Type using the dropdown selector. If additional violation types are needed, they can be added as described in this article.
Choose the Use Code that references the section of the code or ordinance that is being violated. If additional use codes are needed, they can be added as described in this article.
The Violation Description contains a type-ahead feature that will display similar descriptions used in the past. This feature provides consistency for the descriptions.
To add a specific location on the property where the violation exists, click on the Pencil button in the Location data field. A small map will open and zoom to the property. Click on a location on the property to drop a pin, then click Done.
