The Use Code shows the relationship between a property, permit, or violation and a section of the relevant code. The relevant code may be the Zoning Ordinance for a Zoning Permit. For a violation, the relevant code may be the Property Maintenance Code. Other codes may be applicable for any of the various permit types.

A set of Use Codes can be set for each of the following:

  • Property

  • Each individual permit type:

    • Building Permit

    • Zoning Permit

    • Stormwater Permit

    • Etc.

  • Planning Application

  • OLDS Pumping Record

  • ZHB Application

  • Violation

Create a New Use Code or Edit an Existing One

To enter new Use Codes or edit existing ones, go to Edit > Use Codes.

This opens the Use Codes window. To add a new use code, click the Plus button. To edit an existing Use Code, double click its line in the table.

This opens the New Use Code or Edit Use Code window. Choose the Use Type, enter the section of the code into Code, and add a Description. Click Save when done.

As noted earlier, use types can be established for each permit type using the dropdown list.

The Use Type list also includes a use called Common Use Type, which is available for multiple permits. The permits which use the Common Use Type can be changed or customized by CSDatum staff. Contact staff to make changes to these settings.

Property use types are available for property records.

Violation use types are available for violations. See the help articles about Violation Types and Violation Use Codes for more insight into how to structure these lists.

Delete or Archive a Use Code

When a use code is no longer used, it should be archived, rather than deleted. To archive a use code, click the Archive checkbox and then Save.

WARNING: Only delete a use code if it's not used on any property, permit, or violation. Deleting a use code that is in use will remove it from all properties, permits, or violations.
