Thoughts on the Best Ways to Use the Violation Type and Use Code

We have received several questions in recent weeks about how to best set up and use the Violation Type and Use Code dropdown lists in Permit Manager so that they are simple to use and have data that's useful and meaningful.

We put our thinking caps on and hashed out some ideas that we think will help users put the Violation Type and Use Code to the best use when creating violations. We then used those ideas to update the help articles. Have a look and see what you think about our ideas in these help articles linked below.

Of course, the best system is one that works well for your particular situation, and is able to be used consistently by all municipal staffers. So, if you've found techniques and processes for your use of violations, let us know about your success. Send us a quick note in reply. We enjoy getting feedback and appreciate your input.

Violation Type is Now Editable After Save

While we're talking about violations, let's talk about a minor, but niggling, issue in Permit Manager that we cleaned up.

If you record a lot of violations in Permit Manager, you may have noticed that once a violation is saved, you can't change the Violation Type. It is grayed out and inactivated.

We had some requests to make the Violation Type editable after the violation was saved. We thought that was a mighty fine idea, so we made the change! Now, if you happen to save a violation with the wrong Violation Type, simply change it and Re-Save.
