The CSDatum Map has a built-in roadway inspection template that integrates with the Road Planning features of the software.

Inspecting and rating the roadways within a municipality is an important first step to prioritizing roadways for repairs and resurfacing.

To use the roadway inspection template, begin by clicking on a road segment on the map and then open the asset info screen.

Open the Inspections section. Click Start Inspection > Road Planning.

To begin the inspection, click Start.

The first section contains basic inspection information, such as the investigator, date, and time. It also includes three data points that help to prioritize the roadways. Those data points are Surface Age, Traffic, and Drainage. These items are based on the very basic concept that roads that are older, have higher traffic volumes, and poor drainage will degrade most quickly.

The next section relates to alligator cracking. Click here to see a sample of alligator cracking.

The next two sections refer to longitudinal cracking and transverse cracking. Longitudinal cracks run the length of the road, while transverse cracks go across the width of the road.

Rutting occurs in the wheel paths of the cars and trucks using the road. Rate their depth in the next section.

The last section deals with patching. Rate the amount of patching on the roadway.

Finally, add any general comments related to the roadway, and click Save.
