News September 2023: Mapping Whatever the Heck You Wanna Map

We've long heard from folks that they want to map something on the CSDatum Map that we haven't created a specific asset for. Up until now, we've generally pointed them to the Notes Layer that lets you map any random thing that your heart desires.

While the Notes Layer is super-flexible and allows you to map anything, it doesn't do many of the things that regular assets do. For example, you can't upload documents, perform inspections, or export data.

We wanted to improve on the Notes Layer. So, after several weeks of code development, we just turned on a new asset that's called (very creatively) "Other Asset." This Other Asset allows you to map anything, and also do things like upload documents, perform inspections, and export data.

The Other Asset has been added to every layer. Below, you can see the one that was added in the Sanitary Sewer layer. There's one just like that in all the other layers, too.

This new layer even includes a cool new feature to calculate the depreciated value of an asset.

We put together a help article on Other Assets that we think should help you get to mapping whatever in the heck you wanna with this new layer. Give the help article a read and then start putting dots on the map!

Let us know how you like this new asset type. We'd love to hear what uses you find for it.
