Hello! In this note, we've got two items that we think will improve the functionality and usability of Permit Manager. Please check out the two items below and let us know what you think.

File uploads for both the CSDatum Map and Permit Manager have been improved with the ability to drag and drop files. Check out the screenshots below to see how it looks while in use.

CSDatum Map

Every asset on the CSDatum map has an Attachments section that allows files to be associated with a particular asset. Files can be dragged and dropped into the Attachments section.

CSDatum Permits

In Permit Manager, files can be associated with properties, permits, and many other records. When adding a file to a record, it can be dragged and dropped into the upload window.

As you likely know, Permit Manager has an automatic permit numbering feature that applies the next available number to a permit when the Magic Wand button is clicked.

We've talked with quite a few users that have requested the ability to add extra characters at the beginning or end of an automatic permit number. These users typically want to do something like add a "B" to Building Permits and a "Z" to Zoning Permits.

Based on these requests, we are planning to make this improvement to the automatic numbering feature for 2023. We'll create a setting in the database where we can specify up to 4 additional characters to add to each permit number, either before or after the number. Those characters can be different for each municipality and each permit type.

If you'd like to implement a new permit numbering scheme starting on January 1, 2023, please reach out to us as soon as possible. We can discuss the specific permit numbering scheme that you'd like to use. We'll then make the necessary edits to your municipality's settings in Permit Manager.

You are also welcome to make changes to the permit numbering scheme after the turn of the new year. The changes, however, won't be applied to previously created 2023 permits. You'll need to update those permit numbers manually.
